How to close out games in LoL and stop throwing leads

There's a loss that hurts more than any other: the game you already had won. Being 10 kills up at minute 15 and losing at 35 isn't bad luck, it's a specific and very common macro mistake — not knowing how to turn a lead into something permanent before the enemy scales or you gamble it away.

Why you throw won games

Almost every lead is thrown for the same reason: greed. You're ahead, you hunt another kill instead of a tower, you chase through the enemy jungle with no vision, or you force a 5v5 you don't need. A lead doesn't make you immortal — it gives you a window, and that window closes with every unnecessary risk you take.

Shutdown gold is the big tell: when you're fed and die, you don't gift 300 gold, you gift 1000 and a way back for the enemy. Trenix flags that gifted shutdown gold precisely because it's one of the leaks that turns the most won games into losses.

Turn every lead into structure

A kill is worth nothing if you base without taking something off the map. Every time you get a lead, immediately ask: what am I buying with this? A tower, plate, dragon, herald, baron, deep vision or a free reset. Towers and objectives don't come back; kills do. Turn the temporary into the permanent.

Closing a game is reducing the enemy's options, not stacking stats. Taking inhibitors, controlling baron, denying their vision and pushing with the gold lead suffocates the opponent even if you get zero more kills.

The no-coinflip rule

When you're ahead, 50/50 fights play against you: if you win, you were already winning; if you lose, you give the enemy exactly what they needed. The rule is simple: with a lead, you only take the fights you've already won — with numbers, with vision, with baron done. The rest don't exist.

Being ahead lets you be patient. You don't have to force anything: the clock is on your side as long as you keep stacking objectives. The enemy is the one who needs the miracle, so don't gift it by walking into a fight you don't control.
