League Trainer: a training routine to actually improve at LoL

Most people think "training" in LoL means playing more ranked. It doesn't. Ranked is the exam, not the studying. Training is isolating one skill, repeating it with attention, and measuring whether it improves. This is a realistic routine — not a three-hour one — to turn practice into climbing.

Why more ranked isn't training

In ranked your attention is split across twenty things at once, so you reinforce your current habits — good and bad — without correcting any of them. That's why you can play 300 games and still make the same mistake: you never isolated it to work on it.

Training is the opposite: you narrow the focus to a single thing, do it badly many times in a safe environment, and polish it. Practice Tool and normal games exist precisely for that. Your LP is won in ranked, but it's built outside it.

The 30-minute routine

You don't need hours. You need consistency and focus. A half-hour block before your ranked games:

  • 10 min of last hitting in Practice Tool: farm with no items or runes, just the killing blow. Measurable goal: get close to 100 CS in 10 minutes.
  • 5 min of skillshots against a moving dummy or a bot: repeat your key ability until it lands without thinking.
  • 10 min of one macro focus in a normal game: pick ONE (wave control, objective tempo, mid priority) and play watching only that.
  • 5 min of camera control: force an unlocked camera the whole game until it stops costing you effort.

The VOD review, with a method

The most profitable training isn't in playing, it's in reviewing. But don't watch the whole game like a spectator: pick a focus (your deaths, your resets, your CS at minute 10) and watch only that. On your deaths, rewind 20 seconds: the real mistake is almost always the path, the wave or the vision, not the moment you died.

End every review with a measurable rule for the next ranked game, not with "I need to play better". If you can't check at the end of the game whether you kept it, it wasn't a rule, it was a wish.

Champion pool: less is more

Training ten champions is training none. To climb, three well-known champions beat fifteen half-known ones: you cut mental load, master matchups, and your power spikes come automatically. Pick one comfort pick, one that scales, and one for specific games.

Consistency wins ranked. A player who always gets their 80% on three champions climbs more than one who sometimes hits 100% and sometimes 40% trying new things in ranked.
